Nan Nan's Navigating Genius'

Parents,
Here at Nan Nan’s House we are now preparing your child for internet access. How exciting! Just think, soon you will have a computer genius on your hands! :o)

Before we navigate through the educational programs we have prepared, we would like to familiarize your child/children with the basics of the internet. Below is a list of several links that we have approved to assist us in teaching your child the steps, terms and etiquette of the World Wide Web.

Internet Etiquette for Kids teaches your child how to become a responsible ‘Netizen’. This website gives simple but necessary rules on how to respond to others via internet. Two examples of those rules are: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you and do not type in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS for emphasis. IT LOOKS LIKE YOU ARE SHOUTING. (It also gives you alternatives for making 'emphasis')

Gaggle net is a kid-friendly classroom version of regular email services such as yahoo.com
It allows students learn how to exchange email under the supervision of the teacher. It is specifically designed for the classroom. (Once we get started, you will be given the email address and password to your child's account.)

Burlington County Library has an awesome Internet tutorial for kids K-2. It walks you through the basics of how to navigate through the internet by giving you the steps on how to use a mouse, scroll down pages and click on links. After each step is conquered, a positive congratulatory is given.

Do Spiders Live on the World Wide Web? is a cute online storybook that explains the basic computer terms and how their words (not definitions) relate to terms that children may be familiar with. For example: Mouse- a small, squeaky, furry rodent is compared to the computer term Mouse- a way of telling the computer what to do without using the keyboard.

Please check out the above mentioned websites with your child. Working with them will reassure and affirm them of their great capabilities!

Thank you for all of your hard work!

  1. I love it. The only thing I saw wrong was the double "for" in the third line at the very beginning. Your blogs are truly amazing. I also love the websites you included. I had researched some for the last assignment.
