Two fish, Five loaves of bread, STUFFING and a SQUAREWICH to go!!!

Parents,

The Holidays are approaching and Nan Nan’s House has begun to celebrate! We are preparing for our very first Thanksgiving Dine & Drive and Christmas Play! (details will be given at the end of the week)

While we encourage others and look forward to spending quality time with our own families during these special seasons, we want to teach the children the importance of health, nutrition and the joy of giving.

This month, our Pre-K classroom will be spending a lot of time cooking and creating!

Health & Nutrition

One of our first meals will be “Squarewiches”. “Squarewiches” is a fun reminder that we can find shapes in our food! We will provide assorted breads, meats, cheeses, lettuce, tomato onion and condiments for your child to build their own “squarewiches” to take home! (all "squarewiches" will be served with a choice of fruit and a cup of milk)

While this is a fun meal to take home, we will be teaching the children how to follow numerical directions. (Bread first, condiments second, meat, cheese, etc.)

Boowakwala.com is a creative website that allows your child to build their own sandwich based on following visual/ verbal directions. Its ingredients include: bread, chicken, tomato, mayo, cheese, banana, marmalade, salmon, onion and spinach. It will give you a ready made sandwich to duplicate by clicking on the items needed. Once completed it will give you a verbal compliment on a job well done!

The children will also be making their own "stuffing" for the Thanksgiving Dine & Drive. This website  gives quick and easy instructions on how to do so!

We encourage you to work with your child on this website as well as hands-on activities from home to better prepare them for this and future food projects to come!

**** In addition, we know that some of you will be taking vacations during this time of year. Here is a great website to use a creative reference when talking to your children about Jesus, the miracles He performed, and the wonderful men and women He created!

The Joy of Giving

In the past, the children have enjoyed "Feeding the 5,000" activity. This activity is a part of Preschoolbystormie.com
Items needed: construction paper, whole paper plates, “googley eyes”, crayons and scissors (for adults).

Please refer to the above site for further activity instructions and Matthew 14:13-21 for reference and family reading on how Jesus had compassion on the people and increased their “little” into “abundance”, allowing two fish and five loaves of bread to feed five thousand men (not including women and children).

What an awesome God we serve!

Enjoy the Holidays!

Warmest Love,

Nan Nan’s House

  1. Your blog is amazing as always. I love your connection to Jesus and the feeding of the masses. I went to the Boowakwala site and made both the sandwiches, went on the picnic, and colored the picnic page. The kids will have fun making stuffing too. There were a lot of really great ideas on the page with the stuffing. Keep up the wonderful work.

  3. What an unusual site you found. I can see how kids would be fascinated with it - it is so appealing and offers so much in the way of activities. You presented it so creatively too. And I really like the new look of your website

  5. Your blog is amazing!
Aside from this, I would like to thank you for mentioning nutrition, because I definitely feel like it's overlooked. We as a society are so bent on teaching kids about knowledge and success that I think we sometimes forget that at a most basic level, they need to learn how to take care of themselves! Your post here could benefit someone of any age, but is especially great for kids to learn about nutrition at an age where it will stick with them.

  6. I agree! Nutrition is often overlooked in both school and home settings. It's a known fact that America's youth are struggling with unhealthy nutrition and exercise habits that are leading to all sorts of medical, emotional and physical issues.

While I am a firm advocate of PARENTS being their child's FIRST teacher... I am preparing myself to be the "first" to those who don't believe the same...

BTW, thanks for the compliment. I have to say posting on the blog is my favorite part of the Module :O)

  8. Your blog is outstanding! You go above and beyond the call. Your websites are great. It is great that you are showing a side of education that not many people think about food and nutrition.

  9. Thank you Angela! I enjoy blogging and definitely plan to integrate it into my career.

Thanks Chris! In today's society, we've got to teach our children (mainly by example) the importance of heath and nutrition. In my opinion, it's a silent killer...We can have all of the education in the world..but what good will it do us if were too sick or tired to share?
