FALL is here! The weather is changing, the kids are settling into their classroom routines, and our four-year old classroom teachers are preparing a new technology ‘adventure’ for your child for the month of October.
THROUGH THEIR EYES is the technology theme for the month of October. The following link gives many suggestions on Using the Digital Camera in the Primary Classroom. Several digital cameras have been donated to our four-year old classrooms for this project (and future use).
How can digital cameras assist in educating?
Everyday for the next month, we will choose two new students from each four-year old classroom to be the photographer of the day. After we have completed our academic lessons, we will allow our each of our photographers to carry around a digital camera (all cameras will be attached to a sturdy necklace for safety) to take pictures of people, places and things that they think relate or are important to the lesson. For example: The children may take a picture of an apple during lunch, because of the teachings on good eating habits; that same apple may be used as an example for the color red or green.
At the end of every Friday, the teachers will reveal a PowerPoint academic presentation based the students’ photographs. At the end of the month, we will create a special learning DVD that includes three of your child’s photos.
***These DVDs will be available at the end of the month for purchasing. Further information and pricing on this special project will be given at a later date. ***
We encourage every parent (if possible) to purchase a disposable camera for family fun at home. ***most cameras range between $4-10.00***
For example, go for a walk around the neighborhood or local park, allowing your child to take pictures of things that you all see. Once developed, these pictures can be used for further discussion, photo albums, videos, and more…More importantly, they will hold a special memory in reminding you and your child the value of spending time together…
Blessings,

You are amazing! What a great idea. Children see things so differently than we do. That is an awesome idea to engage kids to do something that maybe they wouldn't ordinarily do. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThank you Angela! I actually got this idea from my brother. While visiting on vacation, he gave his two boys (then 7 & 9) disposable cameras to take pictures of what they wanted...I used the same idea with a twist :o)
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome idea. Kids LOVE to use cameras, it's like a toy for them. I think incorporating it into the classwork would grab their attention and make them feel proud of themselves.
ReplyDeleteI agree... The cameras are definitely an attention grabber!
