Parents,
This week we will be focusing on activities for the after-schoolers. After homework is complete and snacks are eaten, your child has the opportunity use their “internet pass” for approved computer games and activities. Because parenting styles vary from each home, Nan Nan’s House only provides academic oriented websites for your child’s entertainment.
Learningplanet.com is a popular site for both our teachers and after-schoolers.
There are too many fun games and activities to name!!!
The student section has age appropriate activities from Pre-K and up.
One of the most popular games to date is: Monster Crossing!!!
According to the games instructions, students are asked to read a word problem. Using the keyboard, the student navigates the monster across the busy four lane road and over the treacherous river to reach the correct answer.
Example of a 4th-6th grade multiplication word problem:
There are eight cars on each row in the parking lot. There are five rows. How many cars are in the parking lot?
This is a timed game and the students are given an opportunity to pick an item out of “Nan Nan’s Big Box” for correct answers and absolute effort.
Another popular game is "Mister Elephant's Matching game" this is a online version of the classic Memory card game. This game is actually popular throughout the grade levels.
As a courtesy, please be aware that you will not have access to all games displayed on this site. Although there are some “free” games for non-account holders, you cannot have complete access unless you are a member. ((Membership starts at $39.95 per year)) Nan Nan’s House has a standing account with this company to ensure the internet safety (unwanted ads are displayed on the site of non-members) for your child as well as gaining full access to all of the games and activities listed.
***As members, teachers are given an opportunity to create custom activities (such as quizzes and puzzles) for exceptional learning.
Please visit the sites above with your child and let us know what you think!
Enjoy each other!

We use learning planet at school. The students do love monster crossing. I also like the free worksheets they have. The fall word search was fun and the plural-singular and verbs were great worksheets for them. I love the way you incorporated something for everyone. Keep up the amazing site.
ReplyDeleteIt's actually exciting to know that your school uses this site. As I wrote about my "future afterschoolers " ;o) I wondered if anyone actually takes advantage of sites such as these... Truly technology has made it so easy to engage children in learning... Thanks for the compliment!
ReplyDeleteBy the sounds of it I think my daughter would love to try to play the games. She is three but anything her older cousins can do, she can :)
ReplyDeleteSonquenetta, you find the cutest websites. I'm tempted to take all of my 20 years of age and go play on that website right now, with the way you've described it. I always say that educational games are the way to get kids to love to learn, but the games on THIS site are by far my favorites of them all. Particularly the Monster Crossing and Matching games- those are so clever!
ReplyDeleteKristen- I think your daugheter would love it!
ReplyDeleteChristine- Thank you! LOL! I enjoyed playing these games as well! All 27 years of me! :O)
